A Task–Technology Fit Model for Enhancing Sustainable Performance in Crowdfunding Institutions

Abstract

This study aimed to develop and test a model explaining the effects of information quality, system quality, service quality, and task characteristics on task–technology fit and to examine the direct and mediating role of perceived usefulness in improving the sustainable performance of crowdfunding institutions. This applied study employed a descriptive–explanatory, cross-sectional survey design. The statistical population comprised key stakeholders associated with 31 officially certified crowdfunding platforms in Iran. Based on statistical power analysis using G*Power, 92 participants were selected through simple random sampling. Data were collected using a structured questionnaire measuring information quality, system quality, service quality, task variability, task analyzability, task–technology fit, perceived usefulness, and sustainable performance. Face and content validity were assessed by experts, while construct validity was evaluated through confirmatory factor analysis. Reliability was examined using Cronbach’s alpha, composite reliability, and rho_A. Partial least squares structural equation modeling was performed using SmartPLS 3. Information quality had a positive and significant effect on task–technology fit (β=0.490, p<0.001). System quality (β=0.371, p<0.001), service quality (β=0.356, p<0.001), and task analyzability (β=0.185, p=0.004) also exerted positive and significant effects, whereas task variability had no significant effect (β=0.013, p=0.831). Task–technology fit positively affected perceived usefulness (β=0.678, p<0.001) and sustainable performance (β=0.290, p=0.007). Perceived usefulness also improved sustainable performance (β=0.495, p<0.001) and partially mediated the relationship between task–technology fit and sustainable performance (β=0.336, p<0.001). The model explained 67% of the variance in task–technology fit, 46% in perceived usefulness, and 52.3% in sustainable performance. Sustainable performance in crowdfunding institutions depends substantially on the alignment of technological capabilities with users’ tasks. Information, system, and service quality are major antecedents of this fit, while perceived usefulness constitutes an important mechanism through which task–technology fit is translated into sustainable performance.
